Why is weight not simply referred to as gravitational force?

If weight is generally mass multiplied by gravitational acceleration, mg, why do we identify weight as a unique vector? Wouldn't it just be under the category of forces?

Will it hurt my GPA if I major in Biochem and Minor is Math? I am really good at both subjects, especially math. I want to have a 4.0 GPA and eventually get accepted to med school. Is it a good, or a bad idea?
