Can someone dumb this math down for me? Numbers range from 1 to 6296, find the probability of selecting a number not divisible by 1000?

So I know the answer is 6290/6296=.999 but how is it 6290? Numbers not divisible by 1000, I would think it would be 290 because 6000 is divisible by 1000. So how is it 6290?
