Why do bartenders cut people off at bars?

2 answers

What if I want to drink to get drunk and keep drinking to get even more drunk? What's wrong with that? Isn't this a free country? Why cant I get drunk as much as I possibly can without some stupid bartender cutting me off?

Someone getting drunk at a bar or club is more likely to try driving home, and when drunk your reflexes and judgment aren't what they would be while sober, therefore more likely to get a DUI / DWI, get a speeding ticket, or in an accident.

...and who do you think is going to be sued when you leave the bar sopping drunk, step in front of a bus and are smashed like a pancake? The bar and the bartender.
