    Also known as the "window". A lift-off in to space, involves a very precise sphere of effect. That why launches seem so random, and others are at night. And so Mission Control, has to accurately state the opening. It's not blue, it's invisible.

    That is the sky. Past that, it's outer space. And rockets are usually work in stages. As one stage runs out of fuel, it is jettisoned - which saves weight for the rest of the rocket assembly.
