Why do people become teachers if they know the pay is bad?

    For the same reason that people become police officers or social workers, it's something they may want to do. If you are working for the pay, you may find yourself hating your job.

    Most people who take up teaching do so because they have a passion for education and enhancing kids minds. Granted there some who should not be teaching bt those who achieve great outcoms should be paid more.

    It's called "having a calling". Lots of people prefer a job that they enjoy and/or deem useful over one that just pays well. We can't all be prostitutes

    Actually, the pay is not bad, nothing like it used to be. And there are many benefits, such as state pensions, holidays, etc. But most people become teachers because they care about sharing their interests, passions, helping others learn, etc.
