Due to the color of its surface, it is (a ruddy) red.

If you can get up before dawn, look to the west... that bright, reddish looking star is Mars. It really does look red. (Or... pink, at least).

because that is the way it looks It looks like that because of the large degrees of iron oxide (rust) on the surface of the planet
