Why do people still call it "Tin Foil" when actual foil made from tin has not been made since the 1940s?

    Old habits die hard, We all repeat a lot of words & phrases that our parents used.

    For the same reason they call a reproduction of a page of text a xerox copy.

    Because that's what people were used to calling it and the name caught on. It's like people say "rubbers" instead of erasers (they don't contain rubber now).

    For the same reason they call it tar paper when it is actually asphalt now. It is tradition and habit.

    same reason we say "tin can" when cans are not made from tin. it is a colloquial expression.

    the older generation called it tin foil. the children of them call it as their parents did
