Why do they always use a red filter to make the planet look red instead of properly white balancing Mars?

The planet Mars has a reddish color due to iron oxide.

Mars IS red, from Fe2O7, a super oxide of iron

They actually did in the early days of Viking, but that created the misconception that Mars had a blue Earth-like sky. In reality the surface of Mars is very red, and its sky is a pale red.
