Air is composed of a mix of tiny particles, to put simply. The particles are too small for the human eye, but you can feel them move by waving your hand and feeling the breeze. The breeze is the particles moving.

To see an object, enough light must be reflected off of the object. The atoms and molecules of the gasses in the air are to tiny to reflect enough light for your brain to recognize.
