You can get 2 answers; 60-(20+15)=60-35=25 25 left over Or; 60-20=40. Having given 20 to Sam, he has 40 left over 40-10=30 30 left over.

    Jamie has 60 counters. He gives 1/3 of his counters to Sam................ 1/3 x 60 = 20 counters ..and 1/4 to Sally:.................... 1/4 x 60 = 15 counters 60 - 20 - 15 = 25 counters left (or 25/60 = 5/12)

    60 counters gives 1/3 to Sam gives 1/4 to Sally (1/3)60 = 20 to Sam (1/4)60 = 15 to Sally 20 + 15 = 35 60-35 = 25 remain

20 counters to Sam 15 counters to Sally Remainder = 25 counters

    1/3 of 60 is 20 and 1/4 of 60 is 15 so 20+15 = 35 Counters left over: 60 - 35 = 25
