With me as a friend, they have no reason to be sad. Unlike you, who can't make up your mind who or what you are.

Ask them why they're sad. Listen to whatever they want to say, it may not be much to you but means a lot to them. Assure them that you're there for them always, and offer help/advice if needed. Remind your friend that you care about them always
