NO not for me...Ive got a bird...no place for a dog and we live on a hill...I would have to walk him...I get enough exercise shopping. I just got back from that...walked around the whole store.

A desktop uses an average of 200 W/hour when it is being used (loudspeakers and printer included). A computer that is on for eight hours a day uses almost 600 kWh Most dogs can be trained to use a treadmill, however, the animal should never be left alone on a treadmill. The pet will need to be supervised and monitored. So if a Human cycled to generate power at 150W sustained for say 2 hours, that's .3 kwh. that could be stored in a battery or run an inverter to power your devices but the dog will be will produce lower numbers...

Poor dog. Use a windmill, instead, or a sun powered setup.

Not MY dog. She is a Great Dane. She would sprawl out all over the treadmill and go to sleep. Possibly thinking "what a nice guy to make this soft bed for me". But depending on the computer. I have a netbook that takes just 10W to operate. Now during my training rides on a bike I maintain from 150 to 200 W for three hours each day so that I could pedal and power the netbook without even noticing the effort. Of course a desktop computer with a large screen takes so much power that this would be quite infeasible.

for reasons others have given it wouldn't be a good idea in practice.

You need a Turnspit dog. Unfortunately they are extinct. There is still a dog powered spit in a pub at Lacock, a village close to where I live. But nothing to power it.
