to see if there are any earth like planets where people could live. If (for whatever reason) every country in the world would unite & make it their national Priority to give as much $$ & manpower as necessary to NASA to develop this technology.

We have no engines or fuel that could speed up a craft to anything near half the speed of light. If we did, the acceleration and deceleration phases would take decades. The USA and other countries wouldn't spend the money cause they don't think interstellar exploration is a priority.

Nope. We simply do not have that level of technology yet. And you want autonomous craft, not remote controlled. Do you really want to send a command out that might take months to reach the craft? Then wait on a reply?

I doubt that matter can ever travel that fast.

It's not possible with present technology.

Even if it were possible you have to keep relativity in mind. While 8 years would pass for the spaceship thousands of years would have passed on earth.

No, 1/2 light speed isn t practical yet. Probes to get there at 15% to 20% of the speed of light are under developemeent though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakthr...

Nope, not even remotely possible. Maybe a concentrated effort over a span of a century, but no matter how much money now was put into this, the basic technology is very far away from the best that we currently have.

"Starwisp" is a concept for an ultra-low-mass interstellar probe pushed by a microwave beam. It is propelled by a microwave sail, similar to a solar sail in concept, but powered by microwaves from a man-made source.
