No. None are what I would call affordable. What is your definition of affordable? Tuition, room and board, books, health insurance, campus fee, transportation, personal expenses, You can find universities with low tuition. Many are extremely small. But your other expenses will still stand. CUNY- high cost of living CSU Long Beach South Texas college Minot State University Have low tuiton for international students.

Expect to prove you have a minimum of USD50,000/year for 4 years to apply for student visa to US. And that's for the less expensive schools in lower-cost areas of the US (mostly smaller towns in the Midwest, South). Foreign students always have expenses citizens do not incur. By the time you add up ALL your expenses, you're just not going to get away with less than that. When looking up projected costs on school's websites, be sure to increase the total by at least 20% over listed costs for US students to cover such additional expenses as passport, visa, transportation, clothing (if you're coming from a different climate, you will need a complete new wardrobe!), etc. Numbeo.com is a good source of cost of living data for various cities around the US, as well as a comparison feature so you can compare costs vs. your own country.

Depends. On a lot of factors. On how exactly you approach affordability. 1. You choose the expensive/prestige universities and get scholarships based on your scores from your home country. There are state universities which are reputed and offer programs at low cost but you need to be a worthy student for that. 2. Actual cheap universities in the not so developed areas on US. These universities are not recognized internationally, sometimes in the US too. And they give out acceptance easily as they are in need of money. These are totally private and you may not get top quality education from there. Also being an international student, getting a visa can be tough too since the university is not reputed.

If you can get a place at one of the 'needs blind/full need/including internationals' universities (Google for the list) and you come from a poor family, your US undergraduate degree will not cost you a cent. When I was at Yale, one of the grads was a girl from Kenya who lived in a mud hut. Not only did they pay all her expenses including travel but they flew her mother over for her graduation.
