Poor kids don't get to go for free but they do get more need based financial aid compared to those who have money. If you have money, you need less. If you're dirt poor, you need more than others. But more often than not poor kids still have to work minimum wage jobs and have to study too so they don't lost the money they were given so it's not free at all. Do poor kids get more money? Yes, because they need it more. Do they go to school completely for free? Almost never.

They don't go for "free," although their family's financial status may qualify them for maximums in financial aid. They will still have expenses which are not covered. Most should expect to work at least part-time, whether they are awarded Work-Study Program as part of their financial aid package or not.

No one gets to go to college for free. If the poor kids get to go to college for free, then that means they earned it by working hard. They either got lots of grants/scholarships or they worked for it.
