Don't. Because despite what you may have read or heard from your teacher, that isn't right. It follows a misconception taught along with the Aufbau principle that suggests that the ns sublevel is lower in energy than the (n-1)d sublevel. That simply isn't always the case. Occupied (n-1)d-sublevels are lower in energy than ns-sublevels.
