People don't walk that fast, especially uphill.

    Since paths lenght is the same , then Vu*tu = Vd*td and td = tu*Vu/Vd = 5tu/3 V aver = (5*tu+3*tu*5/3)/(tu*(1+5/3)) = 10tu/(8tu/3) = 30/8 = 15/4 = 3.75 m/sec

Why are they going uphill faster? :-) If you walk at 5 m/s for 10 minutes and then 3 m/s for 10 minutes the average would be 4 m/s. But clearly you don't walk as far during the 3 m/s portion, so it can't be the return journey.
