    It is grammatically correct, and sounds natural to me, as a 71-year-old middle-class Briton.

    Correct, yes, or will be when you insert a comma after 'sorry'. Natural, no. I'd say 'I'm sorry, but we can't go on being friends' or Í'm sorry, but I don't want to be friends any longer'.

    Suspension points after SORRY to add intensity. I'm sorry........................but we can no longer continue being friends. (a bit better).

    Looks good to me. (But, I would prefer a comma after "I'm sorry".)
