You need the salutation (Hello, dear, whatever) then the body of the letter, then the complimentary close (sincerely, best wishes, etc.). The link below explains the little bit more that you need to do to compose a business letter.

To whom & for what?? I still write letters home. I tell my parents what I've been doing. Tell them how work is going. And maybe talk about the weather a little.

Write what you're going to tell the person, then write what you tell the person, then write what you've told the person, and do so in that order.
