Sapiens: sensible/wise. A quick look at events round the world today would make both definitions questionable.

We are a subspecies called homo sapiens sapiens. The fact that zoologists name us doubly wise doesn't necessarily mean we are. After all the common wren is called troglodytes troglodytes but it doesn't live in caves.
