Is the red supergiant star Betelguese in the constellation of Orion going to go Supernova in our lifetime?

It's in the last stages of its life but does that mean it's going to explode in the next 50 years or the next thousand years?

While possible - it could be a very, very long time yet...

It's possible (if it did become visible to us as a supernova it would have to have exploded several hundred years ago and the light just hasn't reached us). More likely long after all of us are gone. http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy...

more likely a couple million years

Nobody knows. "Last stages" is a LONG time for a star.

    Probably not.

No....'last stages' could mean a million years. It won't happen in our lifetime.
