Its just so terrible. Its half german half english. Just go with the full german, der Dackel. You need to use der, not das, because Dackel is a masculine word and needing the masculine form of 'the'.

Eh. "Hoobastank" is a worse name, so why not? "Filter." It's not the worse - there are some pretty bad ones out there. "Switchfoot." Some cringeworthy names.
