No. they do not know how to read a clock. Their biological clock does not work hourly either.

That depends on the ant and the time of year. Around here I have California harvester ants and Argentine ants. The harvesters are diurnal -- sunup to a bit after sundown. The Argentine ants are active 24 hours a day. They're both inactive during winter.
