Tomatoes are one of the foods that do increase uric acid in the blood which is the acid which is responsible for gout.

No, they are low in purines, the chemical that is converted to uric acid and forms the gout crystals.

I have not seen tomato's as something to avoid. Avoid improper fats such as hydrogenated oils. Avoid sugar, alcohol and caffeine as well. Cherries are said to be very good for gout, or if you prefer the juice.
