Is four references enough for a 1000 word essay ?

Ok so I'm doing a bacherlors degree in Psychology with the open university at level one. They've stated I need to use my information from the text books provided but I can't keep writing the author of the chapters name etc three or four times can i?

If its only a 1000 words that should be enough. Then again, I don't have a clue what I'm talking about today so, just ignore what I said. ;-) PS. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. ;-(
