x^4-x^3-4=0 has 2 real roots & 2 non real roots, which are x=1.748403 x=-1.217334 x=0.2344655+/-1.350697 i worked out directly from my own software.

X^4 - x^3 - 4 = 0 x^3 = X^4 - 4 x = cbrt(X^4 - 4) or x = (-0.5 +/- sqrt(0.75))*cbrt(X^4 - 4)

You need four values. I suggest that you plot a graph of y= x⁴-x³. for x values say -10 to plus 10. On that plot draw a straight line at y=4. See the intersections where these two lines meet. You may be able to collect all 4 values off x.

x^4 - x^3 - 4 = 0 x^4 - x^3 = 4 x^3(x - 1) = 4 Real solutions: x ≈ -1.2173 x ≈ 1.7484 Complex solutions: x ≈ 0.23447 - 1.35070 i x ≈ 0.23447 + 1.35070 i
