once I start I finish the book no matter what. They can surprise you.

I only read books. I am interested in the subject .. and if the first pages seem meaningless to me ... then I put it aside

50 pages to decide if the book is good and something I’d read. If you don’t like a book in 50 pages or less don’t commit as you’ll force yourself to read it. I read a lot of books.

It depends on the quality of the writing, which can usually be sussed out in a few pages. Sometimes, I'll try to power through and see if the writing gets any better, but if the first few pages are awful, then the rest will be awful as well.
