When performing the calculation 34.530 g + 12.1 g + 1 222.34 g, the final answer must have:? The correct answer is only one decimal place. How do you arrive at the answer? Thank you for your help.

When adding, the result should have the same precision as the least precise addend. 12.1 g is only to the tenths and is the least precise. Therefore the result should be to the tenths.

The exact answer is 1268.97. But since the numbers in the question contain five, three, and six significant digits, respectively, then we take the least of those, so the answer should be rounded to three significant digits, i.e.: 1.27 * 10^3
