Honestly I’d just have it pulled, I know many people that have had horrible experiences with root canals years after. Sometimes bacteria can get caught inside the root and become an infection that can infect the jawbone.

The crown alone would be about $500, and the root canal would be more.

$2-3,000 without insurance...400-$1100 with insurance...yeah...might just want to get it pulled

If the financial aspect is too much, look into nonprofit dental practices. Most states will have several locations that will do it at cost. A few hundred and will work a plan with you. I might start with United Way or DHR.

Expect to pay the whole bill yourself. Root canal will run around $1500 and the crown $800-$1200 or thereabouts.
