Why are gums waterproof unlike skin that gets pruney and wrinkly when wet?

The chute for what all goes into the body has always got to be kept moist from saliva and other things.

Because there's liquid in your mouth where the gums are, so they need to be waterproof, just like our internal organs.

Gums have different properties, but believe you me, they are skin, as is the stomach.
