Physics: Why don't objects in motion leave a trail?

For example when you're walking why does your trail disappear? When you throw an object across a yard where does the energy of the trail go? Did someone explain this scientifically?

Why would they?----unless it travels THROUGH something like mud to leave a mark.

There is a trail of where you have been and traveled. You can't see it but a dog can follow it!
