I found a rock in my back garden a while ago and its always occurred to me what type of rock it is.?

It s green rock with grey lines on it and shiny, dark green patches. There are almost layers on the rock and small holes at the bottom. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. If not who do I go to in order to find out what it is? Thanks

My father, who owned a Rock Shop, would tell customers who asked nonsense questions about rocks they found in their garden that it was a rabbit rock. It's the kind of rock you throw at rabbits.

Take or send it to a university geology department or to your state geological survey.

You need a picture, and discuss it's hardness, luster, texture, whatever, and where it was found---for starters.
