Let Tom spend t hrs to complete the journey, then Bill spends t+2 hrs. 60t=55(t+2) => 5t=110 => t=22 Ans. Tom spends 22 hrs; Bill spends 24 hrs.

d is the distance in miles Tom travels for d/60 hours and Bill for d/55 hours. d/60 = d/55 - 2 d/60 - d/55 = -2 11d/660 - 12d/660 = -2 d = 1320 miles Tom travels for d/60 = 22 hours Bill travels for d/55 = 24 hours

Tom's time = distance/speed = d/60 Bill's time = d/55 d/60=d/55+2 d/60-2 = d/55 d/60-d/55 = 2 (55d-60d) / 3300 = 2 -5d = 6600 d = -1320 Tom's time = 1320/60 = 22 hrs Bill's time = 1320/55 = 24 hrs
