We do have the technology, but this is not like when Columbus wanted to get cheap spices from China. It is expensive and so far i we do not have a good reason to send anything more costly that robot probes.

We have the ability to develop the technology to go to Mars or even the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. But our government and other governments need to decide to do it and put the necessary money into it.

We may have the technology, but people aren't willing to spend the money going back to the moon - there is no major learning that can't be done by orbiters and robot landers.

The thing is that it’s expensive and there is a high risk of death. There’s also no way to get back yet. There could be a way found to get back if there was more funding, but at the moment there’s just not that kind of money given to space exploration
