    it is a relatively modern euphemism (I seem to remember it becoming popular back in the 90s sometime). The front door is a substitute for something else, as pointed out by poohbearpenguin (some sort of bizarre manbearpig perhaps?).

    It's the "nice" way of saying "Shut the F*** up!" without swearing. It's the same way people use phrases like "what the H E double hockey sticks is going on here?" instead of saying what the h*ll is going on here.
