y = (x-2)² -4 There is an x² but no y², so this is a vertical parabola. The sign of the x² term is positive, so the parabola opens upwards. vertex (2, -4) is a minimum axis of symmetry: x = 2

Axis of symmetry: x = 2 Turning point (-2, 12) Minimum

Rule y = a(x-h)^2 +k axis of symmetry x=h the coordinates of the turning point =(h,k) if a<0 ---> maximum a>0--->minimum.

axis of symmetry: x=2 turning point (2,-4) which is a minimum for y=a(x-h)^2 + k the axis of symmetry is x=h, the turning point is (h,k), and this is a minimum if a is strictly positive.
