I had pneumonia once. My right lung collapsed and they kept me in hospital with an oxygen tank next to my bed in case I needed it. If both lungs pack up, you die.

If the doctor says so, he probably should. Not everybody with pneumonia needs to be hospitalized. In a lot of cases they can give you medication to get better. But people do sometimes die of pneumonia.

People die from Pneumonia...so...yeah...if a doctor wants them there for monitoring (and possible oxygen) then probably?

A person with pneumonia is not healthy. Things can turn bad very quickly. He should stay for at least another couple of days and give the medications a chance to work.
