Taking one's father's last name is a cultural construct and bears no relationship to any biological processes.

F We came from a combination of information from both our father and our mother. (slightly more than half from mother) How we inherit our name is just an accident of culture. Different cultures have different rules. -- Regards, John Popelish

Aren't you forgetting about the births where the father is absent, or where the parents are both women?

False. When we are born, we have no choice of the name we are given. A baby is given the father's last name due to long standing patriarchal traditions.

False. We do not come more or less from our fathers than from our mothers. Please learn some basic biology.
