I am planning to go on vacation almost all summer to visit family members and my children will miss the last week of school so my question is do I have to write a letter to the school saying they wont be going because we are leaving

I took my daughter out for the last three days of school and had to get permission direct from the principal You need to call the school and ask what their policies are.

Depends on your district rules. In my district as long as they have not missed 10 days or failed their final exams then it doesn’t matter.
