Why would you assume either? You'd break the jaw and teeth, cause severe bruising on the cheek area.

probably break their jaw, they might pass out, I suppose the could chock or bleed to death

Depends how hard the whack was, but because the jaw isn't a vital organ needed for survival, I'd guess they'd survive.
