does that mean the yoghurt in my fridge there is a massive orgy going on inside it with billions of bacteria at it? or do the bacteria just have sex to make the yoghurt?

Bacteria can exchange genetic material, but that has nothing to do with yoghurt. Yoghurt is made by TWO species of bacteria doing their ordinary metabolism
