On the earth, 61 degrees of latitude is how many kilometers? how many miles? Assume that the radius of the earth is 6400 km, or 4000 mi?

The radius of rotation is r = R cos(LAT) and the circumference at that point is C = 2pir. So the distance around the planet at LAT = 61 deg is C = 2*pi()*6400*cos(radians(61)) = 19495.35157 km. ANS You can do the miles.

Actually, from the equator to 61 N latitude is 6765.5 km. From 29 N to 90 N is also 61 degrees of latitude, but it is 6792.7 km. The difference (27.2 km) is because the Earth is not a perfect sphere.
