If an asteroid would come towards earth, is the asteroid coming from the asteroid belt?

The asteroid belt doesn't protect us right? I wonder if space travel could go beyond the asteroid belt.

It could be coming from the Asteroid Belt. They hit each other and get knocked into a different orbit. Space travel has gone past the Asteroid Belt. Several Times. Voyager and New Horizons have left the Solar System.
