As the ratio given is 5:6, assume the actual numbers as 5x and 6x. As white flowers are 42, 6x is equal to 42. The value of x comes to 7. As the value of x is 7, the number of red flowers has to be 5 * 7 i.e., 35.

Let x be the number of red flowers. x/5 = 42/6 x/5 = 7 x = 35
