What is the proper usage of "Don t take it personally"? As revised, its proper use is only in spoken dialog or written quotation of same. Otherwise your question is syntactically in error as respects how you intended it to be interpreted.

Well it should only be used when it is a reasonable expectation that they can without discomfort not take it personally. Not a a prefix to a knife job.
