Singular and plural. Years ago it was, not any longer. Both. Kingdom refers to a "king/queen" being the ruler. But that is no longer true. The people through parliament rule, with the monarch as an advisor(s). Peace.

A kingdom is ruled by a king. A country is ruled by donald trump

Obama presided over a Kingdom. Trump presides over a country. It's all in the peerspective, and perceived self importance.
