Could we put modified immune system cells into foods to prevent them from going off?

Our immune system keeps our body mostly healthy. Could we put specialized immune cells into our foods, so that they can fight off any fungi and bacteria that try to eat it?

Certain foods - like living farm animals - already come with such equipment. Just don't kill them until you're ready to eat.

Some salt or other preservative is cheaper and does a better job because immune system defenses are only effective against a small number of germs. food preservatives and cooking are much more effective against a wide variety of pathogens.
