There's enough hydrogen in the oceans to power humanity for hundreds of thousands of years. We'd run out of water for drinking long before that.

No. Matter can never be destroyed, only converted, so where do you think all that water would go? Besides, the byproduct of using heavy water harvested from the oceans for fusion would be water.

Seems unlikely. However, it is really interesting to think about. I hope we don't pollute the oceans anymore, though.
