if you are not awake to complain or ask for pain med you do not need it, they could OD you if they give just because the last CHARTED dose was a while ago, maybe someone forgot to chart and you are asleep pain free

If a patient appears to be sleeping, medical staff will not wake them to administer pain medication. It's a general "rule" that the sleeping patient is resting comfortably, and needs rest, and the medication can wait until they are awake. .

They can't see you if their eyes are closed, so they may not know you are there.
