Let the length = l and the width = w. Since l is longer, we can let l=w+d where then d is the difference between the length and width. The area of the sandwich is lw=(w+d)w = w^2 +wd = w^2(1+d/w) taking the square root...= w(1+d/w)^1/2 ~ w+d/2w
